We refer to our friends sometimes as being as good as gold, and some people are said to have hearts of gold, which makes gold a precious and valuable substance. Gold is also one of the most popular metals used in the jewellery making craft. It is beautiful, timeless, and makes a lovely piece of jewellery.
Gold has been around since the ancient times, when it was thought that it was a treasure for the gods. Its value being quickly realised because of its relative rarity in nature it became used as currency. Gold jewellery was also equated with wealth and power, although over time it became available to everyone, if only in very small amounts.
Gold can be made into many different types of jewellery, such as ring, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. It is much purer than any other types of metal, and in its purest form is less likely to cause an allergic reaction, or irritate the wearer’s skin. Gold jewellery comes in either white or natural yellow gold. White gold is an alloy with a small content of one other metal, usually palladium or nickel.
Gold is measured in carats in jewellery making and ranges from nine carats to twenty four. So simply put, the higher the carat count, the purer the gold jewellery piece is.
Gold jewellery will last quite a long time. Even the gold that was buried with Egyptian Pharaohs was found to be as good as when the jewellery was first made.
